The Mazda 323 GTX #2 is the Tabor Rally Team's second 323 built. The #1 323 was campaigned by Mark Tabor, until he switched makes to the Nissan Sentra SE-R #3. The #2 Mazda, built and driven by Matt Tabor, was completed in early 2002. It saw it's first event at the Doo Wops rally, in March 2002. Driven by Matt Tabor and co-driven by his wife Monika Tabor, the team have overcome their comparative lack of power, to post some Production GT podium finishes. Matt Tabor started his performance rally career in a 1986 Toyota Corolla GT-S, one of two Tabor Rally Team cars introduced in the 1998 season. The other was the Nissan Sentra SE-R #2, which the team decided to build themselves, unlike the Toyota, which was purchased rally-ready. Matt and then co-driver Chris Hale, actually drove the Nissan Sentra first, at the 1998 Oregon Trail rally. Soon, they settled into the Toyota, which Matt became accustomed to. However, in 2001, it was decided to build a second 323 GTX, so work began. In addition to working as the team's Silverstone Tyres Director, Matt is also the Oregon Region SCCA's Rally Director! Matt and Monika are expecting their first child (and second TRT Grand-baby) in November of 2003. |
